Perry Como was born in Canonsburg, Pa., on May 18, 1912. Barbering seems hardly the career for a seventh son of a seventh son, of whom great things are traditionally expected, but this was in fact the trade he chose, being apprenticed at the age of 14. He did well. He sang while he snipped, of course, and his friends urged him into an audition with a local band, run by Frankie Carlone. He was invited to join them, and though reluctant to give up a prospering business for the uncertainties of entertainment, he started singing professionally at 28 dollars a week. He built up a big following locally, and in 1936 joined the Ted Weems band. This lasted until 1942, when the band split up and Perry returned home, fed up with travelling and keen to get back to the scissors and the hot towels. However, he was offered a regular radio job in New York, which he decided to take. This was fortunate for him and for us, because he began to record shortly after and by 1945 his records were selling in staggering numbers. The sales of recordings by this gentle-voiced man are still up in the region of four million a year.

It is with pleasure that we present these four titles, previously only available as singles, but now re-processed and attractively assembled on one record.
