Some years ago when Perry Como was about to inaugurate his full-hour network TV program, a meeting on how to announce and promote the new show was held high in one of Manhattan's Rockefeller Center towers. A bright-eyed and bushy-tailed young press agent came up with a suggestion that a "National Perry Como Day" be declared. When word of this reached Perry, he said, "Wait a minute. This is not George Washington; this is just Perry Como. Don't go putting up statues of Como in the parks."

"Just Perry Como" is the modest self-appraisal of the man. But in another sense this quiet human being has erected statues of himself in every household in America and in countries around the world. For more years than he himself cares to remember, he has been rated as one of the great singing personalities of all time.

There is simply no reason in these notes to go on erecting "statues of Como in the parks." Better, let the reader listen to the cavalcade of great American songs in this album and the wondrous way that old Per' has with them. Omit plaudits, please; just enjoy yourself. Perry did.
