Can there ever have been a time when a Perry Como record wasn't in the charts? Well if there was it was a long time ago. For a singer who made his first record in 1953 that's quite remarkable as public taste in music and song has so completely changed over the years. Yet Como seems as modern to present day ears as he must have to our mothers and fathers, without in any way changing his style or his basic concept of what type of song he will sing. On May 9th 1974 Perry appeared for the first time on the stage of the London Palladium at a special Variety Club charity concert, and we in Britain at long last had the opportunity to pat homage to the man who started with hits such as "Because", "Ave Maria" continued with "Magic Moments", "Don't Let the Stars Get in Your Eyes" and brought us up to date with "It's Impossible"," Walk Right Back" and lately "The Way We Were". The same impeccable vocal technique, his complete air of relaxation and of being at ease with his listeners and himself, all these shone through on his live performance as they do on his performance on this album. It's no surprise that millions of his listeners still say "Sing to Me Mr. C".
