appears to have been introduced circa as an
- alternative to the RCA Victor 45 RPM Extended Play
format which ended at the same
- time. Compact 33 Double albums, their name
taken from the long-play album format,
- were introduced as mini-versions of
popular albums at the same RPM and with the
- small hole of their big
brother LP. This particular compilation, however, was likely
- produced to
simply provide "fill" to the new offering. The format did not
survive.
