| It would be easy to say that this was Perry's finest Christmas album but that would be over simplified. His first collection of Christmas songs was recorded in 1946 and to compare them with the technology available years later is unfair. His first full stereo Christmas album was recorded in 1959 and it was so good that to follow it up would be a challenge. However, this 1968 production by Andy Wiswell with Nick Perito conducting and the Ray Charles Singers does just that and they do it superbly. The RCA label has never released a comprehensive collection of Perry's Christmas songs but should they ever do so the comparisons will be remarkable and to the discredit of none ~ whether it be Perry's earliest recording of "There Is No Christmas Like a Home Christmas" or the one included within these sessions many years later. |
