PERRY COMO sings these
four well-known and loved songs in a sacred vein with genuine feeling and
sincerity, because he is that type of man —
a family man —
a man with a deeply ingrained sense of what is wholesome, he has to
believe in his lyrics when he sings them -- and you believe them too. For,
in conjunction with al his fine and loveable qualities, Perry Como is a
showman —
one of the most popular in the business.
There are not many
artists who can boast of a sales record to equal Perry Como's. Since 1945
when he was awarded his first "Golden Disc" for his
million-seller "Hubba, Hubba," he has been awarded eleven more —
almost one a year —
the last million-seller was "Round and Round".
Perhaps one reason why
success has not spoiled Perry Como is that he learned so long to do
without it —
he has had his share of disappointments. Way back in 1942, he was thinking
of giving singing away and going back to a barber shop ( he has always
retained a fondness for his initial trade ) but he received a big contract
from NBC for a fifteen minute radio show. Then followed his marvelous
success with his RCA records and "Mr. Nice Guy" has not looked
back since.
"Mr. Nice Guy"
is a title not bestowed capriciously. There are lost of amiable, genial, cheerful,
smiling, contemporaries in the entertainment trades but few which carry
their surface values home and their finest homely values onto Broadway, as
Perry Como does.
