After
listening to this album, it was a temptation to say,
"Here is Mr. Como at his best!" but quite
naturally,, we can't say that . . . simply because Mr.
Como is always at his best. And that's no accident.
Anyone who
ever has been associated or worked with Perry will tell
you that he is in all ways a true perfectionist. During
his talented career in the many facets of show business
he not only has employed the many tools of his musical
trade, but has made it his credo to constantly keep them
sharp. It is well known in the music business that Perry,
besides having the voice, has the ear and the instinct to
go with it. He can listen to the various instrumental
sections as they are recording and balance them in his
head. He can instantly tell when a studio or auditorium
has a "live" response . . . a sound that will
measure up to top quality.
Perry also has
that wonderful faculty for making everyone who works with
him, and yes, as you will hear in this album, even his
audience, a part of the show. His relaxed and friendly
attitude, his smooth and casual presentation, encourage
everyone to participate in his performance.
This album is
an excellent example of the Como charisma. It was
recorded live and on the spot during his 1980 tour, where
he played to S.R.O. audiences as he traveled his concert
circuit of eight cities. From the opening timpani roll
into the overture, Perry exhibits his unique talent for
orchestrating everyone present into his act. As the album
progresses, you will become aware that you are joining
him in a sentimental and nostalgic journey through Como
Land. This lyrical tour includes a variety of musical
numbers that all bear the Como monogram a series
of hit songs that have become synonymous with his name.
This album
also includes a delightful medley of songs that are
closely associated with a very special and dear friend of
Perry's . . . the incomparable Mr. Bing Crosby.
There is also
a change-of-pace segment where Perry sings an
entertaining special-material number, after which he
parries and kids with his enthusiastic audience in a fun
and ad lib fashion.
But rather
than continue to read about the content of this album we
think you would rather be entertained by hearing it . . .
So, put the record on your LP12 turntable, relax in your
favorite chair, lean back in your front-row seat, close
your eyes and . . . Dream Along with Perry.
